Like Father, Like Son そして父になる
Directed by Hirokazu Kore-eda / 2013 / 121 min
(Japanese language with English subtitles)
A successful businessman, Ryota, lives in luxury with his family in Tokyo. One day, he receives a call from a maternity hospital saying that his six-year-old son may have been switched with another child at birth. A DNA test proves that his real child has been brought up by a family running a small electronics shop in Gunma Prefecture. The two couples work together to pursue legal action against the hospital, while struggling with their anguish over whether to keep their biological sons or the children they have raised. They arrange for the boys to visit the other family at weekends and finally decide to choose their biological sons on the basis of a permanent exchange. Meanwhile, they try to let go of the vivid memories of the six years spent with the boys they have brought up as their own.
The film won the Prix du Jury at the 2013 Cannes Film Festival.
